Tattoo | Salento, Colombia

Boy casually (while smiling) getting a tattoo in one corner of the viewing platform. The boy grinning in back asked to take a photo with me--the second time in the country that someone was thrilled to take a photo with a real live chinita. But...he didn't have his own camera. And...mine was film. So...it was sorta pointless, but he seemed to enjoy it.

Steps from the Mirador | Salento, Colombia

There's two ways up to the mirador. The steps are direct and definitely get your heart pumping. The road is a little easier but longer. The nice thing about taking the road the first time I climbed up (out of 3) was that I ran into a young Canadian metal band in the parking lot. Goofy guys, in a Spinal Tap way.

I don't know why they were caged in front of someone's house on the river road. But Amelia and her sister Angelica were VERY eager to show this to me.

The circus is coming to town | Mompós, Colombia

I don't think I've seen a circus since I went to the Moscow Circus in high school. Very, very different from the traveling Ecuadorian circus. I don't think the Moscow Circus featured skimpily-dressed dancing girls from Brazil, for one thing...just what every 10-year-old wants to see.

Clearly, the circus was crazy popular. Two shows per night with lines like this.

Strange girl. Chad and Aaron had pointed her out at the parade as a shy girl who'd sold them coconut candy.

The next morning as I was walking along the river, she and her little sister Amelia came barreling towards me--so fast that Amelia tripped. They clamored to know where my friends were (they'd left that morning), asked me if "we" should buy arepas to eat, wanted to sneak into the circus (at 9am?) and never let go of my hands. When I went back to visit the other sweet family, Angelica was clinging so hard they asked if she was mine--despite telling them previously I didn't have kids, i mean, could I produce one so large this quickly??

Odd. Still don't know what they wanted from me (again, gotta work on my Spanish!).
