Poured and re-poured from high above multiple times until it gets frothy. Served three times: first time strong like death, second time mild as life, third time sweet as love.

*also known as Chinese green tea in bags.

Seemed this entire village--at least the quarter our camp was located in--was a market. These are bogolans, or mud cloths.

Ah, dear Bernard. Usually you don't keep a Dogon porter overnight as the villages are close enough for them to go home after you arrive at your camp, but due to some major confusion about our itinerary, we re-routed Bernard through his home village of Dourou twice and had the opportunity to get to know him over three days. Sweet boy, great sense of humor.
